She Has Failed
I recently received the following message:

“This entire site makes me sick. You make me sick. Do you really think that modern day women will be willing to put up with your misogynistic bullshit in the real world? Of course not. But we’re not talking about the real world here, we’re talking about you behind your computer trying and failing to make women look bad. It’s really very sad, you and your inflated ego. Women are a lot stronger than you think and I’m a lot stronger than most women. But I think I speak for the majority of women when I say: FUCK YOU.”
Well, hello there, N.P. It’s been far too long since I’ve received such a thoughtful and inspiring message. I rather enjoy the irony of being accused of putting myself on a pedestal, just so someone can then climb atop theirs. Please let me return the favor by taking the time to dissect the woman behind the words. Let’s begin, shall we? The sort of woman who writes a message like yours is attempting, unsuccessfully, to convince herself that having read the three or four feminist self-help books she grabbed from a Barnes & Noble bargain bin, she is therefore entitled to a position in the I-must-stand-up-for-oppressed-women-of-the-internet department. This attempt at delusion is fueled by her desire to be viewed as the sort of firm, capable woman whose strong voice refuses to take shit from tyrannically oppressive sexist men who threaten everything females stand for. She wants, perhaps more than anything, to be heard, respected, admired, and revered by the modern female community; a bona fide neo-feminist heroine. But alas, as reality sets in while the walls of bullshit tumble down, she’s nothing more than a low-rent Oprah wannabe spewing frustration, anger, and insecurities at some guy and his website (which, curiously enough, she seems to have spent a lot of time surfing). I believe I speak for myself when I say: She has failed.
