Dear Jonny, Comic Book Obsession…
My fiance has become completely obsessed with comic books over the last six months. He is CONSTANTLY reading them, buying them, searching for them, or trying to get me fired up about them. This infatuation came out of nowhere and even though I’ve told him a million times that what he’s doing is stupid, childish and embarrassing, he continues to fall deeper into a strange, disturbing fantasy world. What do you think I should do?
You should probably quit being such a controlling, condescending bitch. I have a hard time believing that this “infatuation” of his came out of nowhere. You say that despite your telling him “a million times that what he’s doing is stupid, childish and embarrassing, he continues to fall deeper into a strange, disturbing fantasy world,” but here is what I think really happened: For whatever reason, your fiance developed a perfectly healthy interest in comic books. This interest did not fit into your idea of what you want from a soon-to-be husband, particularly when he attempted to include you in it, so you attempted to nip it in the bud via insult and ridicule. Confronted with this unwarranted hostility, he chose to immerse himself in the security of an entertaining fantasy world rather than deal with the alarming reality that he is soon to marry a woman who is suddenly showcasing all the signs of a bitchy control freak. I suggest that you either learn to accept that what interests others may not interest you, or find another man who is more willing to be molded to your exact specifications.
