Dear Jonny: Politics, Religion, And Sports
What are your abbreviated thoughts on Politics, Religion, and Sports?
Politics: Democrat, Republican, liberal, conservative, etc. These words mean nothing to me. They’re clever terms designed to instill commoners with the firm belief that A) There exists an invisible line that wholly differentiates their chosen group from everyone else’s, and B) They actually have a say in the face of the ruling elite. Which they don’t. It’s a brilliant illusion.
Religion: A slick, well-glossed control mechanism that ever-so-cleverly capitalizes on the fear and insecurity humans have when it comes to the vast uncertainty surrounding their impending deaths. Formal religion is hocus pocus. Spirituality is another story entirely.
Sports: A perfectly sly, eye-catching presentation that effectively diverts the public’s focus from what they should be looking into, to what is enjoyable to watch and hard to look away from. As Gracchus says in the film Gladiator, “Conjure magic for them, and they’ll be distracted.” From the Colosseum to the football field.
P.S. As these three topics are so broad, I have provided here only the most basic response. I am currently preparing individual articles for each of these subjects so that I may address them more thoroughly. I will post them in the near future.
