Dear Jonny, Hormones?
I see all these crazy new prohormones and prosteroids at supplement stores and online. Have you tried any of them? If so, results? Are they safe?
I have tried a number of them. Some temporarily increased strength. A few helped lean me out. Others caused major glycogen/water retention, which led to [temporary] weight gain. And most of them helped with recovery, which is what I was after. If a substance can hasten my recovery from repeatedly leg-pressing 1,000 pounds, then I’m able to handle similar loads more frequently – which, when combined with proper diet and adequate rest, will lead to increases in size and strength. But have no illusions: there is no magic pill. No true instant gratification. One must do the work himself – the rest lies in genetic potential. As for safety, such supplements can damage your liver, raise your blood pressure, and cripple your natural testosterone production – among other things. You have to know how much to take, when to take it, and what cautionary measures must be taken. Furthermore, no one under the age of 21 should even remotely consider ingesting any type of hormone-related supplement, as their endogenous “growth hormones” are at peak production. It’s much safer to stick to natural testosterone support formulas, which is what I do these days.
